Garbage is the Plague

Garbage is the Plague, a call to create wearable art to protect oneself from a plague of choice. Seeing the giant piles of rubbish on the beaches of southern California inspired me to create protective gear to quickly conceal, then safely peeking out before once again being able to reemerge out.
Inspired from turtles and other creatures that pull in their limbs in to protect themselves and Covid emerged my ideas for personal protective wear.

Royal Sock Cape

Amy shares her conversation with old socks. Phase one involved cutting socks into flat shapes. Then came stitching them together, the socks were not enjoying this phase. They wiggled and disobeyed, not laying flat at almost every former heel. Once the socks were introduced to other pieces of fabric, woven not knitted they understood what it meant to lay flat.
At this point the depth of the 7th Fun-A-Day-LA show sunk in and Amy brought forward the topic of the impact of the number 7 and how close to the number 10 it was. The socks then agreed to Amy’s original idea with modifications. To make a cape with the socks now playing the lead row in celebrating the 7th show by laying flat (sort of) in formation of the number 7.

Wearable Art

A natural combination of a love of sewing, paper and glue experimentation culminates into wearable art. An extension of Full Circle: re-birth of a tree. Covering wearables with paper takes away the soft every day comfort of getting dressed and expresses to the viewer what is on the mind of the artist. In this case a concern for matters of reuse, excess and the future. Materials used: fabric and notions left behind by the death of loved ones, discarded samples of handmade paper, and liquid adhesive.
Finished piece is a full-length piece that was part of the Lancaster Museum of Art and History's Mother's Day tea and fashion show May 12, 2018.

Yarn Bombing
As a member of Yarn Bombing Los Angeles since 2014 I have yarn bombed a tree in Manhattan Beach, columns in Grand Central Market, a planter in China Town and had a reconstructed sweater in a group show with YBLA. In 2017 as Dreameco Crafts I have yarn bombed part of the Autry Museum. In 2018 we yarn bombed another tree this time at LMU in Playa del Rey. As with all of my yarn bombs (with the exception of the show in a gallery) it will be outside for the world to enjoy.

Performance Art |
In Memoriam: A Funeral Procession for the Death of Love a street art performance done in NYC in 2012 and reenacted in Los Angeles in 2016. Idea originated from Alex Khost, NYC artist. The prop is a six foot casket with two torsos intwined to represent the death of love. In this piece I am the only living female, a ball bearer with a mysterious connection to the macabre scene. Marching along to a New Orleans musical accompaniment otherwise in somber silence. Representing the death of love in 2012 and perhaps more in the political atmosphere of 2016.

Eco Art Collective

As part of the Southern California Women's Caucus for Art I take part in the California Eco Art Collective. The work 'ART = GROWTH' I created in response to the drought issue in California. My collage along with 11 other pieces of women's art travels throughout the country encouraging people to take notice and action in regards to this issue. Each piece is different. Brought together by theme and title, Drought, size (12" x 12") and base (art board). The collective had a positive response to my piece and it hangs near the top left when on display.
Artist Trading Cards

From NYC to Los Angeles Amy has taught classes on making Artist Trading Cards. The history, how to create your own and trade them. Here is a link to her most recent class in Los Angeles as part of Trade School LA. http://amybauerart.wordpress.com/2014/05/10/atc-rediscover-center/
Piano Project

In March 2013 I became a volunteer artist for Sing for Hope a non-profit organization who's mission is to bring art and music to all. 88 pianos were refurbished, artistically decorated, and on display in public parks in NYC for everyone to play and admire. I chose to cover a piano with pages from discarded music books. The piano was located in the Bronx from June 1 - 16, 2013. Images from the piano I worked on can be seen on my blog. http://amybauerart.wordpress.com/tag/piano/
Full Circle: re-birth of a Tree

In 2006 Amy took all of her receipts, scrap paper & broke it down to pulp & reformed it into a tree. After a few exhibitions her tree was planted outside to face the elements and continue to decompose back to nature.
Since Saturday, February 21, 2009 it has proven its mighty power with standing all seasons of north west New Jersey. The tree's progress can be seen by following http://amybauerart.wordpress.com/.
